Keep it Like a Secret

BURGS!

11:38 p.m., Aug. 10, 2003

So you know The Birds, the Hitchcock film where all the birds attack Tippi Hedren?

That's kind of how my house is right now, except with gnats and mosquitos. We think we found a hole near an entrance and we blocked it with tape (oh, how classy). Bugs are far craftier than I'd imagined. But I will still defeat them, I swear.

On Friday, we had our friend Josh over for dinner - he's had a bit of a rough time of it lately, since he's been laid off twice in the last year. So we made him fajitas and tequila drinks, then watched a special, special film called The Last American Virgin. If you want depressing morality tacked on to the end of your '80s teen sex comedy, this is the film for you.

During the rest of the weekend, I bought furniture and watched S.W.A.T. Our new furniture is awesome - especially this incredible china cabinet from the mid-'60s that we found at an antique store on Lincoln for a pretty sweet price. The cats seem to like it, anyway. SWAT kicked ass. It's not trying to be anything more than an enjoyable, mindless action movie where the uncoventional good guys beat the bad guys, and it totally succeeds. Plus, Colin Farrell is in it and he is a good-looking man.

So it was a busy weekend, filled with joy. Unfortunately, it was not filled with unpacking, which means next weekend will be box-o-riffic.

Box-o-riffic will be in the next edition of Webster's, with a photo of my living room next to it.
